1. Welcome and Introductions:
Pete welcomed everyone to the meeting.
2. Apologies: for absence as above
3. Accuracy and Matters Arising from the last Minutes: Minutes were accepted as a true and accurate record.
Pete noted his DBS was from 2018 and needed updating. Heather said that renewal was easy on the government update service.
4. Surgery update from Dr Anita Raina and Julie Gerrish (PSM):
As Dr Raina was delayed, Julie began to relay Dr Raina’s report.
· There is a planned merger with Wayside surgery, which is going through and expected to be completed by mid-May. Wayside has 5,000 patients on their books, which means there will be a total of 45,000 patients in the Modality East Surrey Medical Practice, (MESMP).
· Dr Raina noted that there shouldn’t be a negative impact on the doctor to patient ratio. Parking for patients is more of an issue in Horley rather than Townhill or Smallfield.
· Debbie A has retired and the surgery is in the process of recruiting a new receptionist.
· A Well-Being Initiative is being trialled. E.g. a fruit bowl for staff. The surgeries are all learning from each other to employ best practice.
· Interaction is high within MESMP, micro-teams are used which work better than buddying up. It is about accountability and taking ownership. For example, 500 blood tests are handled daily and none are outstanding. The team is good at challenging each other. All staff help all patients from the three practices in exactly the same way.
· On 24th March Smallfield surgery will close from 1pm for the afternoon for Protected Learning Time.
· There is a new Diagnostic Centre set up in the Belfry in Redhill. They are planning to do 40,000 X-rays and tests every year. One aim is to save people having to go to East Surrey. People will still need a referral but can walk in.
· A new Urgent Treatment Centre at East Surrey Hospital is opening up, approximately in the second half of 2027.
5. Carers Event Proposal:
Dr Raina added that the lady who runs the carers group is sick and asked if the PHC could host a session. Logistics were discussed and it is likely we can. It’s a one-off, two hour session.
ACTION: Pete to contact Brian Seaman and Lisa.
6. WOW coffee morning update:
Heather noted that there are more guests than ever before. She thanked everyone who helps at WOW, which is going from strength to strength with new members. Feedback is tremendous from the guests, with remarks about how much they enjoy and value the group and how it helps them make friends. Lowest attendance numbers are around 27 and highest are for the Christmas lunch, with 56 people coming to The Dog and Duck.
Free milk is received from the Co-op.
Mandy’s at WOW for golf at least every fortnight. Recent activities include a talk on the work the Samaritans do from Anthony and Sharon, (which was extremely useful and informative), a Valentine’s Day theme, with heart shaped biscuits and craft, we celebrated Pancake Day and make sure we make time for our guests to chat together, which they value.
Future events include making Easter Wreaths and a Garden Party including a 90th birthday celebration.
Pete reminded everyone to spend the Friendship Fund grant by August, of which there’s approximately £900 left.
8. Reports on existing and potential projects/groups:
· John reported that the driving group has been running smoothly.
· Claire reported that Knit n Stitch has 19 members on the WhatsApp group, 10 is the average attendance. They have made some fabulous quilts. There is a new project starting this Saturday. The group needs a minimum of 6 people to attend to pay for the cost of hiring the hall.
· Judy reported that the Book Club has 18 people on the group with an average of about 10 people who attend each month. Everyone gives their own opinions and marks out of 10 vary greatly!
· Mary and Judy said the walking group carries on with mostly health champions who attend.
9. A.O.B. and Open Forum:
Pete reminded us to use the grant up.
Update on the bus service is that taking the 424 into Horley and then changing bus to 100 by Lidl is faster than the previous bus route.
John noted that when considering catering, Helena Devlan runs a very good catering business from Lloyd Hall, Outwood.
10 Date of next meeting: Monday 1pm 1st June, back of surgery.
